What is Global Locals e.V. all about?
At Global Locals, our mission is to create an inclusive and welcoming English-speaking international community in and around Nuremberg, connecting people across the region. Our primary objective is to nurture an international mindset, promote tolerance in all areas of culture and foster the idea of international understanding. Ideally, we will create a broad-spectrum community that offers an equally broad spectrum of possibilities. Regardless of their origin, however long their stay, people with shared experiences should find opportunities along with others to discover aspects of the region, its culture, traditions, and local life.
Besides helping people ground themselves in their environment and spread information, we keep people in the loop with our (online) magazine “English Post Nuremberg”. We already foster real-life community connections with our social gatherings and cultural events organised through English Stammtisch Nuremberg.

Can I get involved and offer my support?
Yes, we need you to become involved. We need your support and participation in events, excursions, and our magazine “English Post Nuremberg”. You can also donate to Global Locals e.V. and receive a tax exemption! We especially want people from different backgrounds to get involved so our organisation becomes multi-talented and powered by multiple ethnicities and viewpoints. This will ensure that we respond to a broad range of views and requirements.
You can join Global Locals e.V. as a supporting member, take part in all our activities and enjoy discounts for paid events. Supporting members may also organise events and receive logistical support and assistance publicising their events to our extensive network. In future, we also hope to offer various discounts and other advantages for all our members. Other associations (Vereine) can also join Global Locals.
Who is Global Locals for?
We are an association whose goals are to serve the local community of internationals and internationally orientated-locals. Global Locals helps newcomers integrate easier, provides a hook for stranded individuals to gain connection to other internationals and expand the bubbles people find themselves in, either through work or small social groups.
Why Global Locals?
There are many individuals from outside and inside Germany who do not belong to a large community or other group. They may have difficulty in finding even a handful of people with similar backgrounds.
Nevertheless, many share common attributes, such as:
- coming to the local area from outside
- a desire to discover more about the region where their life is now centred
- looking for connectivity and interaction with others with similar experiences
- occasionally in need of advice or assistance in local matters
- speak English either through education, childhood, or their workplace
So now we have a group of people with several things in common: a diverse heritage which adds colour and life to our locality, a chance to exchange ideas, meet, learn, and share stories, and an opportunity to promote and celebrate each other’s traditions and customs. We also get some great photos to send back to our loved ones in other parts of the world.
Global Locals is not only about people from other countries living in this locality; we are also people born and raised in Germany who are interested in people and cultures outside of our own.
Let us also be clear, we are not a political association, nor are we a pressure group or a religious group. In all these aspects, it is important we remain as neutral as possible. We welcome people from all ethnicities, religious and non-religious backgrounds and political colours. Whilst we may not share the same views and beliefs, we respect each other and accept other views as equally valid as our own.
What is Global Locals e.V.?
Global Locals is a registered association (eingetragener Verein or e.V.). In German, it is referred to as a “Juristische Person” and is in itself a legal entity. As such, it is an independent, non-profit organisation with charitable status. This is a valuable status but requires diligent control of accounts and undertakings within the association.
It is now the official body responsible for English Post Nuremberg, English Stammtisch and organiser of English language events, excursions and cultural activities.
How is Global Locals e.V. financed?
At present, we are operating on a purely voluntary basis. Nevertheless, we do require financial support to cover overheads, make investments and move forwards. Initially, this will be through membership fees. We are also looking for sponsors as well as applying for government and EU grants.
Who is behind Global Locals?
The team, which since 2020 has been involved in developing the online magazine for Nuremberg called ‘English Post Nuremberg’, has put its energies into establishing this new “Verein”. This was necessary for several reasons, including providing a framework for future development, securing some limitations of liability for the (online) magazine, and establishing a legal entity to help us attract sponsorships and grants.
We have many ideas about how we can develop an international community here in the Nuremberg region, but we are always open to new suggestions. We remain committed, enthusiastic, and FEARLESS!!!
